This week’s ElecSoul episode is shaped by belief, disruption and the deep layers of history I felt standing inside Córdoba’s cathedral mosque.
Summer 2024 I took a photo of that interior arches stretching in every direction, light drifting through a space that once held one of the most extraordinary mosques on earth, now containing a cathedral built right into its centre.
To understand that tension, you have to understand the disruption:
The original Great Mosque of Córdoba was created in the 8th century, during a period when the city was alive with learning, art, science, poetry and spiritual expression. When Christian forces took Córdoba in 1236, they consecrated the mosque as a cathedral. But the real rupture came in the 16th century, when a cathedral nave was built inside the mosque not out of architectural need, but symbolism. A statement of power, dominance and control.
Even King Charles V later regretted authorising it, saying they had destroyed “something unique in the world.”
That conflict beauty held inside disruption shaped how I approached this mix.
The first 20 minutes sit lower-tempo, a blend of live jazz, blues-inflected soul and reflective groove. Space to breathe. Space to absorb.
From there, I shift into electronica, rhythm, movement and finally return to my foundation: soulful house, the heartbeat that always carries me home.
