Description

Our Feature today is a story of the intersection of art and business on our Tucson walls. For over 20 years, the Tucson Arts Brigade Mural Art Program has facilitated a civic engagement exercise, bringing together youth, elders, longtime residents, neighborhood associations, schools, social service providers, community centers and businesses. The goal is to produce stunning murals to beautify, connect and energize our city. If you go to the Tucson Arts Brigade website you will see testimonials for all perspectives in our community.

There can be no doubt the murals have been collaborative success. They are depicted on postcards, t-shirts and other memorabilia. Stories can be found on tv, papers, magazines- even on radio. Official and unofficial tours have popped up and the murals themselves- have become destinations and landmarks.

We had the chance to sit down with Ignacio Garcia, the artist behind one of Tucson's most recent Murals, the running of the Pinatas. It's locating in the alley between Scott and 6th and sits upon the side of the UPS Store. The owner of that store, Merry Fennesy, also joins us in the interview and we get a firsthand look at the community impact where art and business intersect.
