Description

It's not easy growing up. That's true for the protagonist of this episode's movies, who's experiences, and their filmic representation are very different, as Olivia Tjon-A-Meeuw and Astrit Abazi discuss.

First up is NIMBE, the podcast's very first foray into Nollywood. The titular teenagers, struggles with problems at home and at school, slowly falling in with a group of drug dealers who make him feel at home. A morality play, with a very specific approach to aesthetics and narrative.

The gem is PERSEPOLIS, a French Iranian animation, which follows Marjane Satrapi through her childhood and teenage years in the wake of the Iranian revolution. Olivia and Astrit discuss the very stark images and the question of whether this could truly happen anywhere.
