Science Foundation Ireland‘s annual summit took place last Monday and Tuesday, November 15-16, with over 300 researchers attending the think-in. The theme of this year’s event was Shaping the Future Now: Science & Society. Scibernia sent Gerard Cunningham along, and he spoke to:
SFI director general Graham Love about the organisation’s work over the last 10 years — including how SFI-funded research created a technology to ‘clean up’ old videos that has since been bought by Google, and why he’s worried about potential cuts to postgraduate grants
SFI researcher of the year 2011 Jonathan Coleman about his research into making plastics stronger
Professor Linda Doyle and Academy Award winning researcher (yes you read that correctly!) Anil Kokaram about what the internet might look like in five years’ time
