We offer artists a platform to reach you far from the club scene - connected day and night.

MATTHIAS • FIEDLER (@matthiasfiedler - Leipzig | GER) is a DJ and producer who started his own label @blaq-numbers, 6 years ago releasing various house, hiphop, disco and soul on vinyl and tape. Due to his hard work and dedication it has become an internationally established label. Aside from his label work he has been hosting monthly shows on @rinse_france and “Misumi Beach Selections” on @noodsradio.
For us he has recorded 60 minutes of some fresh-out-of-the-shower-on-a-Sunday-morning Disco and House - which turned out more cheesy than we expected. In the best way! 💜

// What are you working on at the moment? What’s making you dance? //

I always try to keep things eclectic, so right now I'm sitting on the release plans for '21, which means at least another various artists compilation on tape + hopefully several 12". You can expect George John's first vinyl EP, some wonky house from Donnie Moustaki, a new Donald Dust EP later this year and a new sublabel called 'EERIE', which is a color tone of black, but also can mean weird or uncanny - so this will be our playground for the bit more darker stuff.

// You have your own label Blaq Numbers. What do you like about the label work and what stinks? //

I think the best thing is to meet new and like-minded people, sharing passion for the same kind of things. Something that really bothers me is that in the end, only a fraction of the ideas for releases gets real. A small run of vinyl (+mastering, artwork etc) still costs more than my monthly salary, and the chance that even this costs won't be covered is high. So sometimes you have to disappoint artists, which is hard for me.

Oh, and what personal high for me are vinyl orders on Bandcamp from overseas, be it New York, Detroit or Chicago - places of desire for House and Techno. Or orders from other places that I will possibly never see for myself like Canada, Mexico or China. Simply he thought of us putting together something here in a small room + that people outside there are interested in that - that feels really really nice.

// And what is the last song before the lights go on ...? ;) //
Oh you really get me with this question. Usually, if they don’t carry me out I will play as many closing tracks as I can until I get kicked out myself. So I definitely have a soft spot for closing tracks which is why it’s hard to choose. Spontaneously, I would say, depending on time and vibes, "I need somebody to love tonight" by Sylvester & Patrick Cowley, Daft Punk's "Too Long", the Soul Clap Edit of Womack & Womack's "Conscious of My Conscience" , "The Beginning" by Brian Cares & Howard Katz or a song that personally means a lot to me: "This must be the place" of Talking Heads.
