CJRU’s Donovan Lacroxi interviews musician Yong Icon, who got his nickname from his fans. He was born and raised in Nigeria and performs Afrobeat, which is a type of music that originated in Nigeria and Ghana. In 2014, Young Icon won a best new artist award for the song “Girl For The Night”. He also relocated to South Africa that year. He has an EP called “Timeless” which includes the songs “Rotate” and “Stressed Out”. Young Icon has a U.S. tour planned and can be found on various social channels under the name Teemanay.
