John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."
Everything in the natural physical world has limitations. Let’s think about what Jesus said. The one who drinks of the water from Jacob’s well will thirst again, not because there’s something wrong with the water. The physical body needs water to survive. We have to drink daily. In contrast, the spiritual man also has thirst, but the water Jesus offers not only satisfies the thirst, but the living water becomes a well of more water producing eternal life.
Our encouragement today is that as God’s children, we have a never-ending, all-satisfying, eternal life-producing fountain dwelling in our souls. As we will learn, it is spiritual. In any circumstance or relationship, we may drink from the life of Christ, and He will fill us with what we need to express His life in this world. As we read this account, we see how living water was pouring forth from Him to the Samaritan woman. Although He was physically thirsty, He ministered to her out of fullness. Such is the life we have as we live to love with Jesus.
We may have many people cross our paths today who are like the woman from Samaria. They are thirsting for eternal life, but don’t know it. May the love we show them prepare the way for conversations about living water that springs up to eternal life. May we live out of the fullness of Jesus’ life. You begin with a statement of faith. “Jesus, You are my life. You are the source of everything I need today.” Then follow with a request of faith. “Lord, make me a spring of living water to those around me. Pour out Your love to everyone who crosses my path today.” We close with gratitude. “Thank You for giving me eternal life. Amen.”
