John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Today, I want to encourage you to live to love with Jesus. To love with Jesus, one must be born from above by the Holy Spirit. The life of Christ must reside within for the love of God to be revealed. Jesus was talking with Nicodemus about the new birth. Nick responded from a fleshly perspective when he asked about entering his mother’s womb. Whatever is born out of the strength and power of the flesh can only produce flesh work. Jesus replied by speaking of new birth by the Holy Spirit. If one is born of the Spirit, then the fruit is Spirit work.
This verse underscores for us the importance of loving with or through Jesus. First, let’s notice that if our loving is flesh born, it is lifeless and fruitless for the glory of God. Second, if our loving is born of the Spirit, it is full of life and fruitful for the glory of God. Someone who is not born from above cannot produce anything but flesh, regardless of how good it may appear to others. God sees the source. It’s flesh. When God gives new life by the Holy Spirit, He does so to produce fruit for His glory by the power of the Holy Spirit.
To live to love with Jesus, we must abide in Him and draw from the life of Christ within, which is born from above by the Holy Spirit. When we love like that, we are glorifying God because He is doing the work for us. May we live our lives today filled with the Holy Spirit so that His love is revealed in our lives for God’s glory.
