John 21:9 So when they got out on the land, they saw a charcoal fire already laid and fish placed on it, and bread.
Jesus was prepared for His disciples that morning. It takes time to build a charcoal fire. You’ve probably done it before. Had Jesus gathered the wood, built the fire, and waited as the wood turned into coals? That’s when it’s the hottest and best for cooking. That takes time. Where did the fish and the bread come from? Did He just materialize them or did He catch them Himself? We don’t know. All we know is that Jesus prepared to serve His disciples physical needs.
That’s one of many ways He loves us. He knows our needs, and He loves to serve us. He did not come to be served, but came to serve as He said in Matt. 20:28. Our Lord never changes. He still serves us daily. We pray, “Give us this day our daily bread,” and He does—abundantly I might add. We pray, “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us,” and He does—all of them completely. He comes to us prepared to serve and give us our highest good for His glory. Let’s remember when we see Jesus, we are seeing the Father revealed.
Father, thank You for loving us and serving us our daily bread and for being ready and able to provide what we need to love and glorify You. We are encouraged by this aspect of Your love and character because today we have needs that we cannot fulfill or adequately supply without You. We worship You today and look to You to be our source of supply for all our needs. Glorify Your name in our lives, we pray. Amen.
