John 10:2 “But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.”
Here, Jesus reflects on the entrance to the fold. The shepherd has access to the sheep fold. Jesus was saying that He has access to God. It’s another way of saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me” (John 14:6). The Pharisees considered themselves shepherds, the leaders of the people. Yet, here they were unable to see the way into God’s fold. Instead they were trying “some other way.” This serves as a warning to us that we have discernment about who we listen to. Are we listening to the Good Shepherd or to someone who thinks he/she has progressed in their understanding to the point that they have found another way, a better way, to live life than to submit to Jesus Christ and God’s Word which reveals Him? Really? Has the door changed? Is there another door? Jesus is the God/Man who enters by the door to the Holy of Holies.
