John 10:3 “To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”
In this statement, Jesus reflects on the shepherd and sheep leaving the fold. His focus however, is still on the doorkeeper and the sheep recognizing the shepherd. Who is the doorkeeper? It is God who lets both the shepherd and the sheep in and out. God recognizes Jesus as the one who has authority to bring the sheep in and out. The sheep also hear His voice. The sheep know they are His, by name, and will follow Him out. I love this picture, don’t you? We have a refuge, a haven of rest, that Jesus leads us into for safety. Each day, we follow Him out into the world, trusting that He cares for us and will be with us. We are living to love with Him. Imagine yourself today tuned in to His voice and following His lead into the paths of righteousness, having times of rest by quiet waters, and enjoying the restoring power of His love.
