John 11:20 Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet Him, but Mary stayed at the house.
Someone went before Jesus and alerted Martha that Jesus was coming. As soon as she heard, off she went to meet Him. As we know from other accounts of Martha, she’s a woman of action, and she’s not afraid of speaking her mind to Jesus. In contrast, Mary is the focused one. She’s not easily distracted and prone to busyness, so she stayed in the house with her guests. Now, let’s look at God at work. As we will see, it was necessary for Martha to meet Jesus away from the house and for Mary to stay in the house in order to get the crowd in place for God to glorify His Son. Always keep your eyes on Jesus, not people. The ultimate, glorious will of God is being done on earth as it is in heaven—always. Trust in God today. He loves you. He’s at work in all things and in all people—for His glory.
