John 11:5-6 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was.
Now Jesus loved…so He delayed. Wait! How do we respond when the love of God delays to act and bring healing and relief? John clearly wants us to know and believe that it was love for the sisters and Lazarus that motivated His delay. We may conclude from this that when He delays to relieve our suffering or answer our prayers, it is because He loves us and knows our greater need and highest good is to see His glory revealed in Jesus through the suffering. This lesson is life-changing, and only Jesus’ disciples have this understanding and apply in their lives. Something glorious happens when we wait on the Lord. God is at work when we wait upon Him in the faith and trust of Jesus who lives in us. Jesus was waiting on the Father, and so the sisters were waiting on Jesus. Their faith and love were being purified from self-focus to the glory of God focus. Where is He doing that in our lives so we may glorify Jesus by trusting His timing and love?
