Romans 2:18 and know His will and approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law,
In this verse, Paul continued his description of the Jews who boast in God. They are proud of the fact that through the Law, upon which the rely, they know God’s will in those things which are essential in life. In fact, they derived 613 commandments out of the Law delineated in the Mishnah. They consider these things to be essential.
Let’s again contrast this description with those who have been justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and who live to love with Jesus. Since they boast in the cross of Christ and rely upon His righteousness, life, and love, they know that His will is for them to love with Him. They love to obey Jesus’ command to love one another as He has loved them. They consider loving with Jesus to be essential in life above all things. To them, it is the Royal Law that is not burdensome.
If I just described you, rejoice in the Lord Jesus and give Him glory. Let us pray for God to be glorified, His name exalted, and His will be done in our lives today.
