Description

Romans 2:17 But if you bear the name "Jew" and rely upon the Law and boast in God,
This verse is the first in a series of verses describing the Jews. He cites first, the source of their identity. The name that identifies them is “Jew.” They are sons of the Law of God, and therefore boast in belonging to God through the Law. Second, he defines what they rely upon, namely, that they are recipients of God’s Law. Third, he states what they are proud of, namely, God.
Let’s contrast that description with those who live to love with Jesus. First, they bear the name “Beloved of God.” That’s what identifies them in this world. They are the ones who have been loved by God. Second, they rely upon Jesus: His substitutionary sacrifice and righteousness, His life, and His love. Third, they boast in the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. Listen to how Paul spoke of his boast. Galatians 6:14 “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
Dear Beloved of God. Rely on the Lord Jesus Christ today, and declare His faithfulness to those God puts in your path today.
