Last year in June, we caught up with Arron (aka Traction Engine, Woodsman, TOXiK RavNGR) to talk about the origins of dance music culture in regional Victoria — how things have changed over the years, both locally and globally, our introduction to electronic music, and our thoughts on rave culture in general.

Arron is one of the most underrated DJs in the local scene. A pioneering promoter for local events, and an active supporter of countless projects across the board.

This format is how we always envisioned the [nstbt_podcast] series to be: an interview with the artist, followed by a DJ set. But due to time constraints and limited options at the time, we decided to move forward with just the DJ mixes instead.

Arron was the first local to send us an [nstbt_podcast] way back when we started the series in 2014, and has since contributed over 10 mixes under his various aliases over the years 👏🏻

Featuring an exclusive mix of his trademark hard and heavy techno sound, filled with rave energy and his own quirky flair. We hope you enjoy the chat as we deep dive into the world of Traction Engine 🚂

After dealing with pet emergencies, moving house, dead laptops, and work in general being a fucking nightmare 😖
The second half of 2025 really did a number on us…

We obsessed over organising new artwork, wrote and scrapped five different intros, and tried to clean up some technical difficulties we had in post-production 😫

What I realised is this: it’s not about being perfect — it’s about being real.
All of this is real. Unscripted. Unedited. Warts and all.

We aren’t some massive production company with sponsors. I’m just some guy who wants to chat shit with his mates and share stories. And I hope that never changes for as long as I’m able to do this.
