HousepitChi's second 12" Various Artist EP—focused on advancing Chicago inspired sounds and artists—features Bai-ee, Deepsmith, Change Request, Grey People and Chrissy. Alongside a thoroughly well-balanced offering of darker sounds in parallel to the contrasting brighter sharper tones.
Featured on this EP #2 are two diverse musical statements from a Chicago-based mainstay—Andrew Emil—who arrives on this release courtesy of Change Request.
Change Request | "Poème Three" — Using this EP #2 as a sampler for Emil’s upcoming conceptual Extended Play 12”—Dance Odyssey (Prélude à Trois Poèmes Sonores)—“Poème Three” (A2) immediately takes off into major deep house territory with lush polyphonic reverberant pads, that seem to come from the inside of a castle.
Taken from his “Dance Odyssey (Prélude à Trois Poèmes Sonores) EP—releasing on HousepitChi later this year—Emil pulls the song from this larger work, foreshadowing this upcoming series of tone poems inspired the very first French Impressionist Composer: Claude Achille-Debussy.
The pulsating harmonic motion works to propel this electronic eulogy through rand across such a huge frequency spectrum—employing a myriad of cascading synth sounds—effectively
disguising and distracting from this tone poème’s very intentional missing baseline.
Change Request | "Distorted Dilemma" — A preluding transitional device, the cosmically cinematic, "Distorted Dilemma”(A3), arrives right on time as the second and final Change Request piece on this EP #2.
Climbing to entirely new altitudes of dramatic narration, Emil begins orbiting a series of rhythmic exchanges with their ostinatos. A sonic painting of literal alliteration, “Distorted Dilemma” offers up a pensive proposition by way of a lush short piece of nocturnal incidental drama.
