Change Request | Neural Nocturnes: Spring Vibes

This multi-part album is an homage to the musical form of a Nocturne. A musical form dating back to the late Romantic and Impressionist musical eras, these expressive and lyrical pieces are evocative of the tranquility of the night. An eclectic musical voyage, Neural Nocturnes imagines a world of musical noir through its multifarious sonic paintings and idiosyncratic textures.

A psychedelic rock-inspired track, “Floating Formation” is very reminiscent of the early works of The Police as it sails off into the night with a dark ballad of the sonic deluge and tight percussion.

Picking up the metric pace, “Parallel Palindrome” sees an array of traditional percussion programming paired with live electric bass and tape echoing guitar parts to create a dub-like atmosphere.

Bringing about 80s boogie and a Rufus funk fusion, “Ravaged Romance” takes inspiration from the Chaka Khan hit, “What Cha' Gonna Do for Me”. An orchestration of electric piano and a bubbling bassline meets live string arrangements and saw wave leads to take this steppers classic into the modern world.

Featuring the spoken word of the legendary poet and activist Ruby Dee, “Future Past Gone”, calls upon a variety of synth pads to form this foundation. Sections of her call to arms about seizing the opportunity and not living in the past direct this sonic poem into a two-section arrangement full of textural gesture and ornamentation.
