Crown Heights Royal | Drones (Crown Royal BKLN Mix)
I am absolutely distraught to hear of my dear friend Andrew Hobold’s passing. I got the call two nights ago from Luis Baro, about an hour before I had to play a live performance and was able to block it out. However, yesterday morning I caved in and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
Andrew was my oldest friend in New York City, I have been traveling to stay with him in play gigs in the city for many years now, and I would always stay with him in Crown Heights. With my platinum card status membership to Le Couch du Chez Andrew, we would explore Brooklyn together, from Williamsburg to Coney Island and back again.
Of these many adventures on the MTA, on foot, and in cabs we would always spring for trying to find something neither of us had done before, including a memorable experience when we waited well over a half a day to eat at Di Fara Pizza on Avenue J in Midwood—which was more than worth it, highly recommended—as well as the Kosher Smokehouse BBQ in Bed–Stuy, which might be the most fucking New York thing ever.
He was always down to try new things, experience new sensations, and always with the kindest intentions, care, and grace. He was an extremely hospitable human and keenly focused on everyone else’s comfort before his own. A rare selfless individual; they really don’t make these types anymore.
Both men of music, we would inevitability begin to work on music together. At this point in time, he introduced me to Ben Moon—a multi-talented musician and fine artist from Long Island. We all starting writing together and eventually, called our little project Crown Heights Royal, as it was inspired by a favorite group of ours—that came from that same area a few decades before—Crown Heights Affair.
I got busy with my Change Request project, Andrew and Ben busy with their own projects and then we never really got around to finishing the full EP. This is the first and only single to emerge from the three or four writing sessions back and forth, as the rest of the projects are somewhere on a hard drive in Crown Heights.
This very well might be the last piece of unreleased original music of Andrew's.
I feel it’s best to put it out into the world and allow the universe to employ its reach. Unfortunately, this is the debut single as well as the last single of Crown Heights Royal that will ever surface.
The world really lost a good one this week, a son, a father, a brother, a close confidant, and a collaborator.
He will be missed beyond measure in my world, but I am thankful that he left so much of himself in his artwork, which we can always reference for memories.
With that said, please download, share and play this track as a way to remember, and celebrate the life of one of the kindest friends anyone ever had a staple of New York City musical fabric, and really great friend, the kind you never have enough of.

Deepest condolences Andrew's nuclear family, his brother, and his daughter.
I Love You So Very Much Andrew, Rest Well.
