Daft Punk | Something About Us (Change Request ReVision)
For this ReVision, I went after one of the less obvious hits from the French outfit. It’s always been a song of theirs that I have listened to more than any other. It’s a great example of subtle simplicity in harmonic motion and songwriting.
“Something About Us” is the sixth and final single off of Daft Punk’s LP, Discovery, from 2001. This song was also featured as a promotional item for the feature film—Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem—from 2003.
Beyond its use to score the animated love story of Shep and Stella from the film, its universal notions of unrequited love is a timeless plot within the context of the human emotional experience.
I recreated this with the standard orchestration the original calls for plus adding additional parts, rearranging the sections, and allowing the few instrumental part more room to spatially breath—by programming my drums around them, instead of affixing them on top of the groove—something I always wished the original did.
This was produced with @EventideAudio effects processing, including UltraReverb, SP2016 Reverb, Instant Phaser Mk II, and the H3000 Factory plugin version of the legendary hardware unit.
