Janet Jackson | Go Deep (Change Request ReVision)
My love affair with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Minneapolis production continues.
For this ReVision, I reconstructed the fourth single off of her sixth studio album from 1997, The Velvet Rope.
Reaching number one on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, this song sees Janet approaching the familiar subject matter, in regards to her desires of club cruising for that lucky guy.
Utilizing a low-slung funk feel—featuring guitar, poly-lead, and pop string arrangements—Jam & Lewis explore classic 80s RnB musical ideas, revamped for the 90s, with its decidedly slowed down New Jack Swing beat production.
I have always been drawn to this song for its out-front bassline funk, making it very memorable for DJ use, from backyard BBQs to the club, “Go Deep” is one of the quintessential 90s records.
