Morris Day | Headrush Feat. Trinidad James (Change Request Edit)

In recent years, while keeping the show on the road, his production output has been almost inexistent outside of a few projects with E-40 and Snoop Dogg—just forget that those things ever happened—Mr. Morris E. Day returns in 2020 with two singles.

A long ways away from the Billy Sparks, Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Apollonia, Vanity, André Cymone, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton, Dez Dickerson, Jamie Starr, Grand Central, Monte Moir, Jesse Johnson, Jill Jones, The Original 7ven, The Revolution, Flyte Tyme, First Avenue, Paisley Park, Purple Rains, and Graffiti Bridges heydays, this first single of the year features the Trinidadian-American rapper from Atlanta, GA, Trinidad James aka Trinidad Jame$.

This track “Headrush” however, does quite a good job of putting this magic back together with the featured artist, with all the right elements orchestrated, well-conceived vocal writing in the fashion of a Flyte Tyme production.

Well known for their highly effective multi-hook chorus/verse /pre-chorus vocal arrangement techniques, “Headrush” sees Morris summoning that same Jam & Lewis signature style to great effect.

This fun little track just needed to get a functional arrangement for curation use in DJ set,—extending some musical ideas, whilst truncating others entirely—which also had me beefing up the drum programming in all the right places.

What Time Is It? Anyway...
