Prince | Erotic City (Change Request ReVision)
For the ReVision, I remade my ALL TIME fav Jamie Starr record. One that has been with me in regular rotation since I began playing records in 1996.
Released as the B-side to the 1984 single "Let's Go Crazy" and the 12" version of the 1986 single "Girls & Boys”, “Erotic City” was recorded directly after Prince saw Parliament-Funkadelic at the Beverly Theatre in Los Angeles in 1983.
Notable for its sexual references, and the use of the word “fuck”, although Sheila E—who sings the chorus—have claimed the word is actually “funk”, allowing it to be played on the radio in the late 1980s into the 1990s.
However, an original sheet of handwritten lyrics consisting of ink and graphite on ruled paper, with eraser marks, corrections, and additions—which came up for auction—proves Prince's intended lyric.
Remade with the classic Minneapolis lineup—LinnDrum LM-2, Oberheim DX, Oberheim OBX, and Yamaha DX7—this was recreated with @EventideAudio spatial processing, using the SP2016 Reverb, and reverb from @WavesAudio and Abbey Road Studios.
I have been playing this version of mine for well over a decade and figured it’s time to let this one go.
Every time I comb my hair
Thoughts of you get in my eyes
You're a sinner, I don't care
I just want your creamy thighs
