Originally from Buffalo, NY, James Shizaru is an avid record collector and turntablist who draws influence from all genres of music, performing primarily with all vinyl. Whether he is cutting up jazz, funk, soul, boogie, and hip-hop records or out exploring the deeper sides of house, acid, and disco, he always aims to keep it deep.
The mix begins with the record, “Bodies Meld Together” from Octo Octa on 100% Silk. It was one of those records that James instantly connected with; a record that perfectly embodies the collective energy rising up out of the queer underground scene in the rustbelt area right now. The rest of the mix floats around some deeper cuts on a variety of labels that have been putting out some awesome stuff in the past few years. The idea being new sounds from a familiar place.
