Description

There is one thing called renunciation or to let go-tyagya. Detachment is dispassion or vairagya. Detachment is to be at ease with the presence or absence of something in your life. There was a Zen monk who practiced extreme austerities throughout his life and managed to get to a stage where he could manifest anything in his life. One day, a voice said to him that,” I am very happy with you. I will give you a choice. Tell me what do you want?” “ First, infinite wisdom. Second, infinite wealth. And third, infinite beauty.”

He thought for a moment and said to himself, “What would I do with wealth?” It is temporary and will go out of my hands. What will I do with beauty? It will all wither away one day. Clearly, I am a monk and I need to help people. So, he chose infinite wisdom. As soon as he was blessed with infinite wisdom, a few minutes passed and he said to his disciples that,” I think I made a mistake. I should have gone for infinite wealth.” He is lot more intelligent now with infinite wisdom and out of this wisdom he discovered that he should have gone with infinite wealth. Because he felt that he could have made more difference to the world with his wealth than his wisdom.
