The best thing to overcome the fear of death is to do a self-inquiry. Ask yourself, who is dying? Sri Krishna says to Arjuna,”What are you afraid of?” There is nothing to be afraid of in death. In every single body there exists an indestructible essence called soul that never dies. So tell me who is dying? Nobody. Just like you change clothes when they become old or worn out, the soul changes its body.”
When you get to the depths of self inquiry and ask yourself the question “Who am I?”, your fears will dissipate. You will say that I am not a man, or a woman. I am not a son or a daughter. I am not a father or a mother. I am not the body and the senses. I am not all of these because these things are transient. It is a passing phase. The real me is beyond all this.
There is nothing to cling to. What is there to hold onto? Death is just a pause. Nothing is dying. Whatever breaths you have, have them with gratitude. Let death come. It is the truth of life. The whole planet is just a small dot in the galaxy. The whole galaxy is a dot in the universe. The whole universe is a small dot in the infinite creation. In this massive scale of existence, we are nobody.
