The question is, βIs it better to chant mantras loudly or internally?β It is always better to chant mantra internally. If you are eulogizing bhagwan out of your devotional sentiments then you can chant loudly. For example, sahasranamas, stutis are generally done loudly. However, if you are chanting a mantra it is best to do it internally. Internally, you can do it loudly though. There is a big difference. When you are doing chanting for long periods, you will have to divide the mantras into different parts to maintain the concentration. In order maintain the sharpness, clarity and lucidity when you are chanting for a long period of time, sometimes you need to slow it down or go faster or murmur or chant loud to maintain the concentration. So, you can chant loudly but inside.
The following question is,β For purascharana, is it necessary for the sadhak to take the mantra from an enlightened guru or can the sadhak take mantra from his choice of other sources like books etc.?β
