Though meditation can tame the mind, it may not lead you to bliss at all times. Just to maintain concentration is only a medium to get to the end. We become capable of succeeding on this path of meditation only if we cultivate certain virtues. These four virtues of compassion, self discipline, gratitude and detachment are of great importance. In our daily life we are not cut off from people but are interacting with them constantly. These virtues when practiced while dealing with others can help us to evolve faster. These virtues are as important as the actual act of meditation and are critical in advancing on the path.
The four aspects of good meditation are posture, lucidity, mindfulness and vigilance. Meditation in its own right even though it will help you tame your mind, it won’t necessarily lead to a state of bliss all the time because after all how many hours can you meditate in a day? Most of the time you are in the world, dealing with people, listening to people, talking to people, hearing them out, making them hear you out. Most of our time goes in interacting with people one way or the other.
A human being is pretty much never alone. You go to a movie theatre you are watching other people acting on the screen. You go to work and you are dealing with your boss and peers. You go home and you are dealing with your family. You go to a supermarket you are dealing with other people. You drive on a road, even though you are in your own car but you are constantly dealing with other drivers on the road. You are pretty much never alone. And, when you are on your own, you are still dealing with a lot of other people because your mind is reminding you of this person or that person or this thing or that thing. So, you are never alone.
