Description

A traditional ballad based on an actual event in New Hampshire, where a beautiful teenage girl refused to take her mother's advice, wore elegant but scanty clothes and froze to death on the way to a winter ball.

This is a public-domain ballad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Charlotte) apparently based on an actual 19th century event, memorialized in a poem by a Maine writer in 1843. The accompaniment is a synthesized harmonica. The ballad has contributed several notable phrases to the English language, including "You'll catch your death of cold".
