Fühlt ihr schon den Sommerende-Blues? Haben wir was gegen! Für Mix #51 dürfen wir einen besonderen interationalen Gast willkommen heißen: DJ Ripley aus Philadelphia. Sie spielt sich schon seit den 90ern durch die Clubs der Welt und ihr einzigartiger Sound hat so viele Facetten, dass wir nach Jungle, Bassmusic, Dub, Footwork und Afrobeats lieber aufhören, aufzuzählen und einfach sagen, dass grenzenloses Genremixing ihr Markenzeichen ist. Ripleys Herz schlägt für die Soundsystem Culture, für sie sollen Dancefloors Orte der Heilung und Transzendenz, des Unterbrechens, Entladens und Verbindens sein. Mit diesen Themen setzt sich sie auch in einem akademischen Kontext auseinander, forscht an der Temple University an den Schnittpunkten von Musik, Technologie, Recht und kulturellen Ausdrucksformen und bringt im März '22 sogar ein Buch zum Thema raus: Rude Citizenship: Jamaican Popular Music, Copyright and the Reverberations of Colonial Power. In Philadelphia hat sie außerdem mit den DJs Cristiña and Sideswipe die Subversion PHL Crew gegründet, mit denen sie die Grenzen der Bassmusik in alle Himmelsrichtungen verschieben will. Feeling the end-of-summer blues? We've got you covered! It's a pleasure to welcome another international guest to our series: DJ Ripley from Philadelphia. She has been storming dancefloors with her fearless & ferocious mixing style since the 90s, taking her junglist approach to genre-mixing across the world. A lover and scholar of soundsystem culture, her goal is for dancefloors to be places of healing, disruption, release, transcendence and connection. She cofounded the Subversion PHL crew in Philadelphia with DJs Cristiña and Sideswipe: they seek to push the boundaries of bass music in all directions. She's also a scholar of music, law and technology and has a book coming out (Rude Citizenship: Jamaican Popular Music, Copyright and the Reverberations of Colonial Power) in March 2022.
