I wrote this song to Alex.
It is the most poetic thing I’ve done, I thought.
Andres loved the song, and asked if he could produce a different version of it. I said of course.
He stripped the song of all music and kept the vocals, then recorded and played guitar and keyboard around the vocals.
Afterwards, I re-recorded new vocals over the original vocals. I re-recorded the background vocals as well.
But, then Andres did something that, when I heard it, made me start to cry.
He added a background vocal singing, “We’ll be alright” and “We’re not broken”.
This song about hopelessness and wanting to go with him, all of a sudden had some hope and belief added to it.
I love the song, I love that Andres added to it, produced, arranged, performed and mix and mastered it. He truly brought out what I wanted to present. He is so amazing and talented. (I love you, Mijo)
This song is for Alex. It expresses my thoughts to him that I had a week after his passing. I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you.
THE OTHER SIDE
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
What color is the sky on the other side
If everything's turned around, like they said?
What color are the trees on the other side
If everything's turned around, are they dead?
Is it wise to ask yourself all these questions why
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
With all of these thoughts and fears in my mind?
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
It doesn't matter the depth of your question, "why"
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
If the answer is always, 'why, why, why, why, why, why'
What color is the ocean on the other side
If everything's turned around in my head?
Is your heart still beating on the other side?
'Cause if everything's turned around, you're not dead
Is it wise to ask yourself all these questions why
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
With everything going on in my mind?
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
It doesn't matter the depth of the question, 'why'
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
If the question is always "why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why ... "
(musical interlude)
hmmm, hmmm, hmmm, hmmm
What do you do over there on the other side
That you just had to be there to do?
Would it have mattered much to the other side
If I went with you?
Can I go with you?
Is it wise to ask yourself all these questions why
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
Especially when I'm feeling left behind?
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
It doesn't matter the depth of your questions, 'why'
(We'll be alright, We're not broken ...)
If all you do is cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry ...
