In 2016, distraught by the death of musical legend and genius, Prince, and the overwhelming amount of musicians and actors who passed away that year, I created a song and made a video honoring them. It was cathartic in a way that I can’t explain. It was also well received by friends, family and even complete strangers who happened upon it. It reminded me just how important music is in our lives and how, in many ways, it helps us cope in different situations with various levels of emotional ties. To quote another musical legend and genius, “Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand.” – Stevie Wonder, Sir Duke.
This year I thought I’d compose and perform another song to remember those we lost. Some are musicians, some are actors and some are authors or public figures. I decided to write a new song for this entry. Surprisingly, it is still cathartic for me to do so.
I am proud to present this original song I wrote just for this video, which includes pictures of those we lost this year, called “Twenty Seventeen – In Memoriam”.
