Awarded the 2012 United States Artists Friends Fellow in recognition of the excellence of his work today’s guest has been an inspiration to many other progressive musicians. He has been playing the banjo since 1963 and worked on the soundtrack for “Driving Miss Daisy”. His 2007 album, “Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular”, featured appearances by Steve Martin, Earl Scruggs, and many other banjo luminaries. The recipient of two International Bluegrass Music Association awards as well as a Grammy nomination he also received the award for Banjo Player of the Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association. The New York Times has referred to him as “the father of modern bluegrass.”
