In Locke & Key, a mother and her children move to an ominous ancestral house after the mysterious death of the children’s father. There, they begin to discover the house’s ancient mysteries, which revolve around a series of keys which unlock magical environments and disturbing powers.
In this podcast episode, Sound Supervisor J.R. Fountain and Re-recording mixer Eric Apps guide us through the creation of the fantastic sounds of the show, including a terrifying mirror room, a sinister portal to another dimension, and whispering keys that only children can hear. They also discuss an important challenge: hitting the right tone of the series to emphasize the fantastic and magical over the terrifying horror.
