Some people don’t give because the overwhelming need leaves them hopeless. We’ve all experienced the hopelessness of the poverty cycle, for example. Israel had as well—and for that reason might have resisted jubilee year. But God’s vision for a national jubilee year was intended to be orchestrated on an individual level. When you focus on making the life of one person better, you aren’t overcome by hopelessness. This is why our church gives faithfully to the outreach contribution. They ask themselves—whats the jubilee of one person worth? A lot.
