Lists are helpful in defining persons we want to be like, including Christ. At the same time, corresponding lists describe the kind of people we don’t want to be. The Seven Deadly Sins are one such list. Envy stems from competitive pride and produces malice. Malice prevents us from loving like we should, which is terrible for the church. So we need to derive our identity, not from our stuff, but from the worth God gives us.
