Description

The 29 August marked 10 years since New Orleans and the Gulf Coast were struck by one of the most devastating and costly disasters in U.S. History.

Dr. Aten first became involved in disaster work after moving to South Mississippi just six days before Hurricane Katrina struck. Within a few weeks he became active in studying the relationship between religious/spiritual responses and mental health after the storm. Jamie Aten, (Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Indiana State University) is the Founder and Co-Director of the Humanitarian Disaster Institute.

During his recent visit to Cambridge, while presenting his research at the Faraday Institute's summer course, Eleanor Puttock managed to grab a few minutes to talk to Jamie about his first-hand experience of Hurricane Katrina and how this has shaped his current career and research interests.
