I was very conflicted about releasing this song because of recent events, both in my personal life and in America. "White Flag" deals with capitulation to oppression due to the frustration of the struggle.
It contains a sample of "When the Man Comes Around" by Johnny Cash. It was certainly a "man" coming coming around that motivated me to examine the deeper meaning of this song and further inspired me to appreciate the significance of it. I chose a Phoenix as the accompanying graphic because, though the White Flag represents a kind of death through surrender, it represents the promise of resurrection and redemption.
