Description

Starting just off of Interstate 90 south of Butte, the Homestake Pass section of the Continental Divide Trail is a casual hike through a wonderland of unusual rock formations, part of a geological formation called the Boulder Bathoolith. Worn smooth by exposure to the elements, the formations add a dreamlike quality to the trail, which winds gently through open forest while birds chirp above you. The trail surface is smooth dirt, which makes for easy miles, and you can choose to make this scenic central Montana hike as short or as long as you want.
