Interview with Damien

Good morning Damien!! I hope you agree to answer a few random and fun questions to share with our listeners?

Hey good morning! Yes sure and thanks for welcoming me on your channel!

➢ To start you off tell us what song puts you in a good mood when you wake up in the morning?

I come from a more punk/rock background, so my song to start off the day in a good mood would definitely be Burning from Whitest Boy Alive. This song reminds me of the 5 years I spent living in London, a turning point in my life: it opened my eyes musically. The UK scene is huge and diverse, and living in London made me discover House and Deep House through many artists that inspired me at that time such as Maya Jane Coles, Steve Bug etc…. This is what got me into digging and mixing.

Funny, I always have to listen to this song twice: the 1st listen would be more nostalgic, thinking of all these great memories, and the second would bring a big smile to my face and get me ready for the day.

➢ You are one half of @la-magouille, tell us briefly how you two got playing together and what is the best part of doing b2b’s?

We share the same love for music, we have pretty similar taste and love the same artists, like @jobjobse or @jennifercardini, so it came quite naturally to start playing together.

In our B2Bs, each of us will try to bring something special on the table and the best part of it is that we always try to challenge and surprise each other without knowing what the other has in their bag. It’s exciting and it adds another layer of synergy between us.

➢ You are the founders of Long Distance parties. What do you want someone to experience by the end of one of your events?

We created Long Distance with the idea to bring inspiring artists to Switzerland (like Darlyn Vlys or Bawrut) and to put the spotlight on the styles of music we love such as dark disco, italo house, new wave…

So hopefully at the end of an event people would have discovered new sounds... and dance their asses off!
So far we always had great feedback and it makes us feel lucky to be able to share our music, it’s also a lot of great vibes and we can’t wait for the next one!

➢ Since the pandemic it has been difficult time for the music scene, how has it changed within Lausanne and what do you think will be different when things return to a certain “normality”?

Yes it’s been a tough time for many artists, independent and the industry in general. It’s also sad not to be able to party together and to go listen to the artists we love and inspires us. I hope that things will get back to normal as soon as possible. I think when things open again people would feel the urge to catch up on all those months of privation and it will certainly be a beautiful time full of love and gratefulness.

➢ Lastly, regarding this mix you have done for us, can you tell us a little bit of your thought process behind choosing the tracks you chose?

This set represents how I feel at the moment: I’m impatient, I can’t wait for clubs to reopen and be able to share again moments on the dance floor with friends and strangers. I think the tracks selection kind of encapsulates this.
