YS

Ys was a piece that reflects some moments of French Music, starting with Debussy, Messiaen, Grisey,
Xenakis, Murail and also younger Composers like Raphael Cendo or Pierre Jodlowski. The motto of the
piece is connected to the Debussy Prelude of the sunken Cathedral. It was following not only a
spectral Approach from the harmonic Side, but also a "essayistic" Approach. The absoulute Scary
thing happens after the performance of the piece: In the near of Douarnenez lies a Ship, a belgium
Freighter on the ocean ground. It carried Food and Tabbak to Africa in the 1950's. The sister ship
was the "Georg Büchner", that was in the Rostock Harbour for years. In the night before my first
intrance examination I slept on that ship in a Youth Hostel in the Rostock Harbour. When I was in
Paris the old ship was carried to Poland for scrapping. At the same time, Intercontemporain was
playing my piece about sunken Cathedrals the ship sank in the baltic Sea in the harbour of Gdansk.
The piece was written exactly 100 years after the prelude of Debussy and currently the sister ship
sleeps in the Polish Sea. And the next funny thing: The belgium Ship was once a inspiration for the
Comic Book Author Hergé for Tintin. He also slept on the same ship and draw it for "Tintin in the
Congo".
