The national unemployment rate edged up to 4.6 per cent from 4.5 per cent in September with another dramatic deterioration in the participation rate the main reason why unemployment did not jump further. The ABS says 138,000 jobs were lost last month as Australia's two most populous states New South Wales and Victoria struggled through extended lockdowns.
