Juliet May has been one of the leading directorial lights of British comedy for over three decades. As the second season of her most recent venture – the magnificent, “Motherland” – readies itself for air, she joins the pod for a frank and open conversation about where the line is in comedy and whether comics are permitted to cross it in today’s ‘outrage’ culture. In keeping with societal standards, this is the first Pint With Seaniebee that comes with a “TRIGGER WARNING!”, as we discuss rape jokes, Jewish jokes and whether men are actually funnier than women for evolutionary reasons.
JULIET’S “WHAT TO WATCH?”
“Bodyguard”; “Fleabag”; “Vanity Fair” and Steven Moffat’s “Doctor Who”.
[NB: During our Father Ted discussion, we refer to the ‘fact’ that RTE (the Irish TV station) passed on commissioning the show which was eventually picked up by Channel 4. Apparently it was not offered to RTE for them to reject. (But we all know, they would have rejected it at the time if it had!)]
