David Burke has completed his PhD at Bath Spa University, titled ‘Persistence, coherence and vernacular practice in 2020s heavy metal culture’
His work incorporates ethnographic studies which partly derive from his experiences as a musician, promoter and journalist, alongside media analyses and continental thought.
He has been published in Metal Music Studies & Action, criticism and theory for music education, and he has contributed two articles on doom and sludge metal to the Bloomsbury Encyclopaedia of Popular Music of the World.
