Alma Perez is the vocalist and guitarist in COATL (KÓAt•l) an Alternative Metal band from Los Angeles blending heavy modern metal with indigenous identity, mysticism, and bilingual (Spanish/English) lyricism. Named after the Nahuatl word for serpent, COATL draws inspiration from pre-Hispanic culture, spirituality, and the idea of constant evolution.
Formed by Alma Perez and Israel Vega, the band’s music explores consciousness, animal rights, corporate greed, metaphysics, and cultural resistance—balancing melodic, memorable rhythms with aggressive riffs and powerful vocals. Their sound moves fluidly between heaviness and atmosphere, ritual and rebellion.
COATL has toured across the U.S., Mexico, and Cuba, performing at festivals such as Pinar Rock (Cuba) and Monstros del Metal Mexicano, and sharing stages with Otep, Rata Blanca, Cemican, and Anciients. The band has received multiple recognitions, including Best Hard Rock Band at Premios de Metal Kalani.
COATL is currently preparing new releases, including their upcoming fifth album.
