1
O Thou sweetest source of gladness,
O Thou fairest source of light,
Who alike in joy and sadness
Leadest men on paths aright:
Holy Spirit, God of peace,
Thou whose care doth never cease,
Thee we owe our preservation;
Hear, O hear my supplication.
2
Like a rain in boundless measure,
Thou art shed from yonder throne,
Bearing blessing as Thy treasure
From the Father and the Son.
Come to me, O noble guest,
With the gifts by Thee possessed;
Pour them out as Thou art willing,
All my soul and body filling.
3
Thou art holy, and Thou dwellest
In a pure and cleansed heart;
Sin and vileness Thou repellest,
Spotless like a dove Thou art.
Fount of grace, cleanse me within,
Wash away the guilt of sin;
Let me flee what Thou refusest,
And delight in what Thou choosest.
4
With Thy strength be ever near me,
Firm and faithful at my side;
As my Helper haste to hear me,
And all needful aid provide.
Curb the flesh, inclined to ill;
Take my sinful human will
To renew and make it holy,
That it seek to please Thee solely.
5
Be my friend and consolation;
When I sink, be near to save;
When I die, be my salvation:
When I rest, be Thou my grave.
And when I from death shall rise,
Take me, Lord, to Paradise.
With Thy saints to stand before Thee,
There for ever to adore Thee.
