A new memorial will honor miners that passed on January 24, 1884, in what was the most-tragic mining accident in Colorado (today, it is still the 3rd most-tragic). An estimated 58-60 miners perished in the mine located on "The Bench" above Crested Butte.
The miners likely didn't have much of a connection to the town nor -with the exception of 4 of the miners - did they have families, and the families of those who died did not stick around.
