Composed by Michel Legrand (music) and Alan & Marilyn Bergman (lyrics).
This is a solo piano recording by John LeBec, produced in Aberdeen, Scotland, 30 July 2014.
"What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life? was originally the main theme for the 1969 film "The Happy Ending." Marilyn Bergman later recalled, "The song was to be used twice in the movie. First, under a montage of two lovers, and then under a scene sixteen years later, after their marriage had ended."
Alan & Marilyn Bergman wrote many great lyrics, but one of my favorites is couplet out of the bridge into the final "A" section of "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?":
And when you stand before the candles on a cake,
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make.
This solo piano recording is nothing fancy, just once through the head. Okay, sure - I threw in a touch of drama after the bridge, just to sell the point.
