Eating Disorders Are A Real Concern!

According to the National Eating Disorder Association up to 70 million people (men&women)suffer from an eating disorder and the prevalence globally is increasing.

Eating disorders are not just a case of a person eating more or less food. People suffering an eating disorder are in fact suffering from a mental illness.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness and the suicide rates of anorexia are 32 times higher than that of the general population.

When someone suffers from an eating disorders it affects relationship dynamics within families, friends and communities.

Meditalk speaks with Dr Vash Singh who is a Psychiatrist at Hollywood Private Hospital who specialises in eating disorders.
It is so important as a society we all gain a better understanding of eating disorders to greater empathise and be able to support people suffering from this very serious health condition.
