In December 2017 in Australia, the Cervical Screening Test replaced what we commonly call the Pap Test.
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers women can die from and a routine cervical screening test can save a woman’s life.
Almost all cases of cervical cancer are caused by HPV; this is the biggest risk factor for cervical cancer. So it is really important we screen for HPV in healthy women through a cervical screening test.
Today on Meditalk I speak with Dr Stuart Salfinger who is a Gynaecologic Oncologist to talk about Cervical Screening.
Dr Stuart Salfinger informs us on what changes were made to the national cervical screening program, how the changes in the program effect women, how a cervical screening test differs from a pap test and what exactly is involved.
Education and effective screening programs are key to preventing diseases such as; cervical cancer.
